A student found dead after taking excess drugs.
A student of a Secondary school located in Ohafia, Arochukwu L.G.A, Abia state was found dead after consuming 10 tablets of Tramadol.
According to the Mr. Akindele Akingbade – Commandant of National Drug law Enforcemant Agency (NDLEA), who spoke on a seminar at the NDLEA and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Narcotics and Abia State Drug Abuse Control Committee (ADCC) organised for patent medicine dealers.
According to the Nation, Akingbade stated that the student allegedly took Tramadol tablets so as to boost his performance for the upcoming inter-house sport competition.
He died shortly after consuming the drugs.
Akingbade also said that Abia state was among the Nigeria states with high level of drugs/substance abuse. He also said that the Governor of Abia state, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu is aware of the incident and efforts are being made to arrest the drug seller.
Akingbade also advised patent drug dealers to cease from selling drugs to anyone without the prescription of a doctor.
Still on the matter, high rate of crimes, robbery, rape, kidnapping and other the like are as a result of drug abuse.
He also mentioned that the agency (NDLEA) has started encouraging schools to achieve permanent acceptance for a Drug Free Clubs. This is to help discourage pupils from taking drugs.
The Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Ministry of Health and Chairman, ADCC, Chief Chimezie Uzuegbu who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, David Anyanwu reacted to this by hailing the NDLEA for its efforts towards curbing drug abuse.
